Imaginary musical link" Nelly Furtado - 'Trynna finda way' to accompany this blog entry
Album of the week: Wayne Hancock - 'Wild young and reckless'
I'm thinking I NEED to drive/ride route 66. I have invites to 3 states east of here: Colarado, Omaha and Texas. Tempting !!!!!@@@@
===================================================================
So, I am in the greatest hostel in San Fran - Fort Mason - overlooking Alcatraz and I am now set with the task of trynna finda way to Mexico SAFELY.....;;.;.;''
So, I have the option of train to San Diego and then flight, or fly direct from here. I would prefer to at least see the coast from the train window I think. Although I have already decided that I am coming back here as soon as possible to do the whole route. So, if anyone else is interested, let me know. It would be great to have a small 'team' and good inspiration to keep motivated to exercise through the British winters.
I am now making the sensible decision to fly to Oaxaca rather than attempt any travel through the North of Mexico. The bike decision still evades me. I am going to put it up for sale and see what happens. It will have to be the right price and the right home. I am rather attatched to it, and my little lap to and my ipod. I am existing in a cosy solo lifestyle and these three items are my selected things that seem to be giving me all that I need at the moment. Should I be worried?
So, my 'steel horse' is about to make an appearance on 'Craigs list' :-(. Then I guess I may as well sell bags etc too. Hoping that the swimming section of my worldwide 'triathalon' works better. At least I am back in my element and a little more in my comfort zone with scuba/ snorkle swimming and then trecking. Soooooooooooo reluctant to let my bike go though. It took me the best part of 3/4 weeks to adapt it and 'break' it and myself in. Errrrr help!
The good news is I've had the all clear with my knee. No breaks; no bursts; no torn ligaments. Yippeeeee!!!!! So rest and ice and no weight bearing for a little while. AND NO CYCLING :-( for at least 10 days more. Pants!!
$100 dollars to take bike to Mexico but then it's me and the bike for the long haul and I'm just not sure I want the responsibilty of it. Me and my bags of clothes and comforts is just about as much as I want to defend in a world of thieves. I also have to figure out how it all comes apart to box it. I guess I'll tackle that task in the morning. I have romantic notions of cycling to Mayan ruins and packing my wet suit and a hammock on the bike and 'hanging around' on beautiful beaches :-). drinking fresh fruit juice and eating rice, steamed veg and bbq fish. Why wasn't I born rich?
I guess I'll have to settle for lucky. I was invited to sing in a cafe the other night and buoyed by this had a blues session on the steps of the hostel. Great fun!! Then yesterday I met the guitarist from the cafe who was 'telling' me i was a professional singer. Maybe I should fuel this 'misunderstanding'. It seems people here just 'go for it'. It may be that some of that N American arogance is rubbing off on me, sorry! It is nice though, being appraoched in the street and told you sing like a pro and should come along to a set regularly. Is this a slippery slope....?
La la la la la la la... x
